What are your thoughts on Being Human UK vs. Being Human US, and the show in general?

Ive only seen the US version, but from the constant outpouring of love from UK fans for the original and the general level of quality of BBC supernatural shows, I have to assume the UK version is orders of magnitude better. I like the US version just fine, but I can’t see anyone going nuts over it with fanboy enthusiasm. It’s  well acted, well shot and reasonably well written, but the pacing is off, it’s fairly dull for episodes at a time and a little too emo for it’s own good. I also completely do not understand the portrayal of the “vampire elders” as blood sucking Amish. They seem in no way ruthless, ancient or feared. It’s not even clear what their organization is attempting to accomplish. One of the things I love about vampire lore is that it can be BIG and EXTREMELY OLD and GRAND and there can be factions or forbidden loves that undo it from the inside. USBH has none of that. It’s mopey at all times and hardly ever as bad ass as a show starring a ghost a werewolf and a vampire should be. I really dig the guys playing Aiden and Josh, but I cringe nearly every moment that Sally is on screen. I think it has less to do with the actress and more to do with how she’s written, but she is constantly annoying. I feel like the entire first season and the first 2 eps of the 2nd season have contained maybe 3 episodes worth of plot.

I have started watching The Fades, though, and it’s pretty rad. Male Buffy minus the season 1 camp.
